Spartans fall at Elon, 5-2, in SoCon women's tennis action

ELON, NC – Arielle VonStrolley and Courtney Akel won singles matches, but it wasn’t enough as UNC Greensboro dropped a 5-2 decision to backyard rival Elon in Southern Conference women’s tennis action.

VonStrolley won at No. 1 singles over Deanna Bailey, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Courtney Akel topped Francie Rudolph in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3. But, the Phoenix took the other four singles matches and two of three pro-sets. UNCG earned a win at No. 1 singles when Von Strolley and Erica Zabkar won in a tiebreaker, 9-8 with a 10-8 score in the tiebreak. But Elon won the other two pro-sets to earn the point.

UNCG (7-8, 2-3) will host College of Charleston in another SoCon match Saturday at 10:30 am.
