Four tight matches go Portland's way as UNCG falls 6-1
GREENSBORO, NC – University of Portland won two tight singles matches and two tight doubles pro-sets to come away with a 6-1 win over host UNC Greensboro in women’s tennis action Tuesday afternoon.
The Pilots (8-4) won a pair of doubles pro-sets by 9-7 scores and then pulled out a pair of three set wins for the win. Jenna Tanzer won a three-setter over Whitney Miles, 7-5, 6-7, 1-0, including a 10-5 decision in the third-set tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Anna Gullickson pulled out a three-set win over Valerie Behr at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0, including 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
UNC Greensboro’s lone point of the afternoon came when Arielle VonStrolley defeated Christina Feyen at No. 1 singles in three sets, winning the opener 6-1, losing the second set 6-3, but pulling out the third set 7-5.
The Spartans (5-4) return to action with a Southern Conference match on Saturday when they face Wofford in Spartanburg, SC beginning at 12 noon.
