WILMINGTON, NC - UNC Greensboro's Emily Wade won the top flight singles title at the UNC Wilmington Invitational this past weekend.
Wade defeated Virginie Dinh of Coastal Carolina, 6-2, 6-0, in Friday's quarterfinals. She followed that up with wins over Lindsey Hess of UNC Wilmington in the semifinals, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (12-10), and Charlotte's Ofra Friedman in the finals. Friedman withdrew due to injury in the first set with the score tied, 5-5.
Teammate Lisa Suggs finished third in the first flight bracket, defeating Hess on Sunday, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. In addition, Laura Templeton finished fifth in the third flight bracket, battling through the consolation bracket after a loss on Friday. Templeton and Wade also combined to do the same in the second doubles flight.
