Women's Soccer Prepares for SoCon Road Trip against Furman and Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team travels to South Carolina for a pair of SoCon games this weekend, facing Furman Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium. UNCG then takes on Wofford Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. at Snyder Field.
The Spartans (6-6, 3-1 SoCon) won two-straight home games last weekend to improve to 3-1 in conference play with tough victories against College of Charleston, 2-1, in overtime and The Citadel (2-1). Freshman forward Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) scored her second game-winning goal of the season and picked up her team-leading fourth goal in the 94th minute against the Cougars.
Senior Lauren Hein (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance) was named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring two goals, including the game-winner against The Citadel last Sunday. Hein moved to forward after starting the first 10 games on defense. Freshman Zoe Fishman (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real Charter) added a goal and an assist on the weekend which puts her second on the team with eight points.
UNCG leads the series against Furman with a 14-9-1 record, winning the last four meetings with the Paladins. The Spartans are also undefeated against Wofford at 18-0-1 after tying the Terriers at home 1-1 last season.
The Paladins were carrying a seven-game winning streak before losing 1-0 against College of Charleston on Sept. 23. Furman is 2-1-1 in conference play and tied with Samford, 2-2, in double overtime last week. The Paladins are led by freshman standout Stephanie DeVita who has 13 goals and two assists to lead the SoCon.
Wofford enters the weekend with a 6-5 record and is 1-3 in conference play. The Terriers only win was against Chattanooga last weekend. Maureen Buff leads the team with two goals and five assists.
Furman and Wofford will both provide live stats and live video for each game against the Spartans this weekend.
