Simmons Earns Multiple Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG freshman goalkeeper Jamie Simmons (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook HS) has earned multiple weekly honors from College Soccer 360.com and College Sports Madness after her stellar play last weekend against then No. 7 Wake Forest and UNC Asheville, the organizations announced Tuesday.

Simmons landed on the CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll after earning her first collegiate shutout against then No. 7 Wake Forest. She stopped all five shots she faced, including a couple from point-blank range. Simmons took care of 15 corner kicks from the Demon Deacons and made sure the Spartans came away with their highest win ever against a ranked opponent. Wake Forest's two best chances came from midfielder Kristen Meier, who had two shots turned away by Simmons.

The Houston, Texas native capped the weekend with two saves against UNC Asheville in a 7-0 victory.

One week earlier, Simmons took home SoCon Player of the Week accolades after making 14 shots in her first match in UNCG's 1-0, double-overtime loss at Georgia and fell one save shy of tying the program record for most saves set in 2001 by Kathryn Clewley.

College Sports Madness also named Simmons its SoCon women's soccer Player of the Week. College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in our weekly feature.
