GREENSBORO, N.C. – An early goal by senior Cat Barnekow and a late one by redshirt senior Kristin Player gave the Gold team a 2-0 win in UNCG's women's soccer Blue-Gold scrimmage on Sunday.

The sides played 10-v-10 for three 20-minute periods.

The Blue team was composed of: Kelsey Kearney, Casey McCavitt, Jaimey Etten, Stephanie Partenheimer, Karina Rodriguez, Lauren Hein, Casey Godwin, Nitang Jones, Tinna Bergthorsdottir and Lauren Lover.

Barnekow, Player, Alex Perry, Shea Glaspey, Kaytee O'Brien, Ashley Stokes, Karin Sendel, Ashlee Wilhelmsen, Klarie Ake and assistant coach Jamie Corti comprised the Gold team.

Barnekow put the Gold on top in the 11th minute of action, taking a cross from freshman Stokes and putting it past Kearney from the top of the 18.

That was the only shot for either team in the opening period, but Blue rattled off four in the second frame. Hein pulled the trigger first for the Blue, with her shot sailing wide in the 26th minute. After Jones had an attempt blocked near the top of the 18, Hein put one off the far post from the right side in the 39th minute, just missing the equalizer. Jones corralled the rebound and fired wide.

Player forced Kearney's first save of the evening a minute later, with the senior keeper smothering the low shot after it deflected off a defender.

Gold turned up its offensive intensity in the third and final period, outshooting the Blue squad 5-1 in the closing 20 minutes.

After O'Brien's header and Jones' shot were both wide of the goal for Blue, Player got free on a breakaway to make it a two-score game. She beat Kearney lower left to double Gold's lead.

After Godwin's long attempt missed high, Barnekow nearly added a second goal, putting one off the crossbar in the 59th minute. O'Brien forced Kearney's second save of the night with less than a minute to play.

Perry earned the shutout in net for the Gold team, facing five shots without needing to make a save.

Hein and Jones led the Blue squad with two shots each, while Barnekow took a game-high three for the Gold, which took seven total.

UNCG will host North Georgia for an exhibition match next Sunday at 2 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
