Women's soccer announces spring schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's women's soccer team will take part in nine spring contests, coach Steve Nugent announced Friday.

The Spartans traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., to face Virginia Tech and Nugent's former team Georgia on March 26, falling 3-0 in both contests. Nugent was an assistant for the Bulldogs for four years.

UNCG will take on Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday. The last time the Spartans were in Charlottesville was in the NCAA tournament last season, when 10th-ranked UNCG fell to No. 20 South Carolina 2-1 in the first round.

The Spartans will play a pair of 45-minute contests on April 5 at Elon, taking on the host Phoenix at 6 p.m. and Duke at 7 p.m. UNCG will face another Southern Conference foe on April 9 at BB&T Park in Winston-Salem, N.C., when it will take on Western Carolina. A game against Liberty will follow later in the day.

UNCG will return to Winston-Salem on April 16 to wrap up the spring slate. There, it will take on NC State and Wake Forest on the Demon Deacons' campus.

The Spartans turned in one of the finest seasons in school history in 2010, going 19-2-1 overall and 11-0-0 in the SoCon. UNCG won its fifth straight SoCon regular-season crown and won the SoCon tournament to earn an NCAA bid. The Spartans earned their first top-10 since 1996 and finished the season ranked No. 23.
