Top-seeded UNCG to host Wofford in SoCon first round on Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Top-seeded UNCG will host No. 8 seed Wofford on Sunday in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship at UNCG Soccer Stadium. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, fans are encouraged to wear pink and the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free pink T-shirt.

The Spartans, ranked 16th in the nation, topped Elon on Thursday to wrap up their fourth undefeated SoCon regular season in the last five years. UNCG enters Sunday's contest with a 16-1-1 overall mark and finished SoCon play 11-0-0.

UNCG, which has won 13 straight games, will be facing Wofford in the tournament for just the fourth time in school history. The Terriers won a must-win game against Furman on Wednesday, 1-0, to secure their spot in the tournament. Wofford comes into the match with a 7-7-4 overall mark and went 2-5-4 in league play.

UNCG will wear pink jerseys and shoelaces for the Sunday's game, which will also feature a children's Halloween costume contest during halftime.

Admission to the game is free.

In Sunday's other first-round action, No. 2 seed Samford will host No. 7 Davidson in Birmingham, Ala.; No. 3 The Citadel will host No. 6 Furman in Charleston, S.C.; and No. 4 College of Charleston will host No. 5 Elon in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The four quarterfinal winners will head to Cullowhee, N.C., the following weekend for the conclusion of the tournament. The semifinals will take play on Friday, Nov. 5, with the final slated for Sunday, Nov. 7. The winner of the tournament will receive the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
