UNCG to host SoCon Women's Soccer Championship this weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro will host the 2009 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship this weekend at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Semifinal matches will be at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. No. 2 seed College of Charleston will take on No. 3 seed Samford in the first semifinal, while top-seeded UNCG will host No. 4 seed Davidson in the second game.

The championship game will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8. The winner of that match will receive the league's automatic berth to the 64-team NCAA Women's Soccer Championship field.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth or UNCG students with student IDs. Group rates of $2 per member are available for soccer teams with members 14 years old and under. For more information, call 336-334-3250.

The Spartans earned the top seed in the tournament by putting together a 9-2 mark in SoCon play this season (13-6 overall), clinching their fourth straight regular-season SoCon title with a 1-0 win over Elon on Thursday.
