Kearney named CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore keeper Kelsey Kearney has been named one of CollegeSoccer360.com's inaugural Primetime Performers for the week of Aug. 24-Sept. 1 for her part in UNC Greensboro's phenomenal weekend at the Carolina Nike Classic, the Web site announced Wednesday.

Kearney posted an impressive 0.50 goals against average against a pair of ranked teams over the weekend, earning her 12th career shutout in UNCG's 1-0 win over No. 11 Duke and holding top-ranked North Carolina to just one goal in a 1-0 loss.

The Durham, N.C., native fell one save shy of her career high with nine in the win over the Blue Devils on Friday and turned in eight stops two days later against the Tar Heels, who destroyed No. 3 UCLA to open the season, 7-2. On the weekend, Kearney put together a healthy .944 save percentage. She faced 44 shots in two games, with 18 of them on frame.

Kearney is off to a solid start to her sophomore campaign after earning spots on the All-Southern Conference First Team and the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2008. On the season, Kearney owns a 1.00 GAA and has posted 22 saves in just three games.

Kearney joins 17 other players recognized as Primetime Performers, including some from elite women's soccer programs like North Carolina, Portland, Stanford and Penn State. Players are selected based on any of the following criteria: the rank of their team and/or opponents, clutch individual performances and overcoming adversity.

The Spartans, who are receiving votes in the latest NSCAA top-25 poll, host the UNCG Spartan Classic this weekend. UNCG will take on No. 4 Stanford at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Virginia Commonwealth at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
