CHARLOTTE, NC – Senior Katelynn Donovan and freshman Kelsey Kearney were named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's All-State Women's Soccer Team, the NCCSIA announced Wednesday.

Donovan, the Southern Conference Player of the Year, earned one of four midfield spots on the all-state team. The Melville, NY, native led the Spartans with 12 goals and added four assists for a team-best 28 points on the year. Donovan notched five game-winning goals, including a stretch of three straight games, and was named the SoCon Player of the Month for October. She finished third in the SoCon in goals, goals per game (0.52), points and points per game (1.22).

Kearney was named the all-state goalkeeper after leading the SoCon in goals against average with a school-record 0.48 mark, which was also good for eighth in the nation. The Durham, NC, product also led the conference in shutouts (11), shutouts per game (0.58) and save percentage, with her .875 percentage the sixth-best mark in the NCAA. Kearney was a first team All-SoCon choice, and went 13-2-3 in the net on the season. Kearney's only two losses were to then-No. 3 Stanford and then-No. 15 Wake Forest, and she earned a win over then-No. 15 Santa Clara. Kearney was the lone freshman on the all-state team.

Donovan and Kearney were instrumental in leading the Spartans to a 16-4-3 overall mark and a 10-0-1 record in Southern Conference play. The unbeaten league record was UNCG's third straight, giving the Spartans their straight regular-season SoCon championship. UNCG advanced to the title game of the SoCon tournament before settling for a tie and falling in penalty kicks. The Spartans ended the season on a 14-game unbeaten streak, going 11-0-3 to finish the 2008 campaign.
