Two women's soccer recruits win USL Super Y U-20 North American championship

GREENSBORO, NC - Two incoming freshman for head coach Eddie Radwanski's UNC Greensboro women's soccer team recently competed in the United Soccer Leagues Super-20 League North American final, bringing home a championship for the Triangle FC.  Kelsey Kearney and Kim Murphy helped lead their team to the title, defeating Parsippany 3-2 in penalty kicks.

Down 1-0 early in the first half, Triangle battled back to even the score at one a piece early in the second half before adding their second goal of the match just seconds later.  After a late goal by Parsippany knotted the score at 2-2, the match headed into over time with neither team managing a quality look on net.

With the match set to be decided by penalty kicks it was Kearney who set the tone, making two spectacular saves, while her teammates converted four of five shots to take the title from Parsippany for the first time in three years.  Parsippany had won the North American championship in each of the last two seasons.

Kearney, a goal keeper from Durham, NC and Murphy, a midfielder from Wake Forest, NC will join the Spartans on Friday, August 8 as the team reports for the start of the 2008 season.  UNCG will officially open the season on Aug. 22 when the Spartans play host to Coastal Carolina at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
