GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro's women's soccer team has earned the Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 school year, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced recently.
Southern Conference Coach of the Year Eddie Radwanski's squad posted a 3.01 grade point average to become one of the 265 women's programs to earn the award nationally.
The Spartans had two players post 4.00 GPAs in 2007-08 in Karla Davis and Lauren Lopez. Lopez, a junior defender on this season's squad, was named first team All-Southern Conference at the league tournament in November. She was also the 2008-09 recipient of the Aaron Michael Bobb scholarship, given annually to the student-athlete with the highest GPA for the last academic year, and was recently inducted into UNCG's Golden Chain Honor Society.
Five of Lopez's teammates also earned all-conference honors, including SoCon Player of the Year Katelynn Donovan, who turned in a 3.03 GPA last year.
UNCG went 16-4-3 on the 2008 season, finishing the year on a 14-game unbeaten streak at 11-0-3. The Spartans stretched their SoCon undefeated streak to 31 games with a 10-0-1 effort in league play, turning in their third straight unbeaten league record and regular-season title.
