UNCG's Corti, Davis, Player named to NCCSIA all-state team

CHARLOTTE, NC – Three members of the UNC Greensboro women’s soccer team have been named to the 2007 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Women’s Soccer Team released in mid-December.

Seniors Jamie Corti and Karla Davis and freshman Kristin Player joined the 11-player, six-school team after a 16-5-1 season, a Southern Conference regular-season championship, and an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

One of four defenders selected, Jamie Corti earned three points this season with one goal and one assist. The Apex, NC, native centered a strong Spartan defensive line that allowed just 19 goals in 22 games and captured 13 shutouts. Corti was also named to the 2007 Florida Atlantic University Classic All-Tournament team and the Southern Conference All-Conference first team.

Co-captain Karla Davis joined four-time NCCSIA honoree Lindsey Ozimek of Charlotte on the list of North Carolina’s top midfielders. The native of Monroe, NC, garnered 10 points with two goals and six assists. She ended tied for fourth in the league in assists on the season. A powerful force in the midfield, she was also selected to the SoCon preseason all-conference team and the SoCon all-conference first team.

Kristin Player recorded 25 points (10g,5a) in her first season as a Spartan. The freshman from Placentia, CA, was named the 2007 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and the SoCon Player of the Week. She was also selected to the SoCon all-conference first-team. Player led the team with 25 points and the league with five game-winning goals.

The NCCSIA University All-State team consists of one goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders and three forwards from both NCAA Division I colleges and universities. Nominees are submitted by North Carolina sports information directors and are then voted on by members of the NCCSIA.
