SPARTANBURG, SC – Following an undefeated conference record of 10-0-0, and a second-consecutive Southern Conference regular season championship title, the UNC Greensboro women’s soccer team was rewarded with six first-team all-conference selections and one second-team selection. The team also received a Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year award.
Freshman forward Kristin Player was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year and was selected to the all-conference first-team after leading all first-year players in scoring with nine goals and four assists. Player also led the league in game-winning goals with five.
Joining Player on the first-team were fellow Spartans sophomore forward Kelly Attayek, senior defender Karla Davis, sophomore mid/defender Jennifer Bronson, senior defender Jamie Corti, and senior goalkeeper Katherine Ryan. In addition, sophomore defender Lauren Lopez was selected to the second-team.
Along with the player awards, head coach Eddie Radwanski received an honor of his own. For the second season in a row, Radwanski was named the Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers.
In his seventh year at the helm of the Spartans, Radwanski led the team to a perfect 10-0-0 record in conference play and a second-consecutive regular season first-place finish in the SoCon. This is UNCG’s fourth regular season title under Radwanski. The team currently holds a 14-3-1 overall record as is in the midst of a 21-game regular season conference unbeaten streak, with a 24-game steak overall.
Kristin Player, a native of Placentia, CA, has tallied 22 points with nine goals and four assists in her first season as a Spartan. She has also added a league-leading five game-winning goals. A solid player on the UNCG scoring line, Player notched her first start, her first collegiate goal, and her first game-winner in the 1-0 victory over William and Mary to open-up the 2007 season.
The league’s scoring leader in conference play, Kelly Attayek has tallied 25 points on the season with nine goals and five assists. She recorded her first goal in the 1-1 tie with Wake Forest in mid-September. This season she has been awarded the SoCon Player of the Week, SoCon Player of the Month, and the TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week. Last year she received second-team honors.
This is the second-consecutive first-team selection for Monroe, NC native Karla Davis. She has been a pivotal player in the UNCG scoring line setting up numerous scoring opportunities with her high-flying corner kicks and long-distance throws from the line. This year she has tallied six assists, including two in the season-opener against William and Mary. Davis recorded her first goal of the season during the 3-2 defeat over the College of Charleston late last month.
Raleigh, NC, native Jen Bronson has played in 18 games for the Spartans. In her 17 starts for UNCG, she’s recorded eight points off of two goals and four assists. A strong player in the right-midfield position, Bronson is noted for her quick crossover footwork and her speed along the sideline. Last season, Bronson was awarded the Co-Freshman of the Year Award, sharing it with Davidson’s Suzanne Sittko.
Jamie Corti, a native of Apex, NC, has been a standout on the defensive line for the Spartans. In her 18 games on the field, Corti has helped to hold opponents to just 13 points. She tallied her first goal of the season in the 3-0 shutout against Elon to closeout the regular season and recorded an assist in the 2-1 victory over Appalachian State.
Katherine Ryan has shutout eight of her 14 opponents, including the 1-0 shutout against Elon to advance to the SoCon Championships semifinal round. The netminder from Pittsboro, NC, has tallied 63 saves with a .840 save percentage, and has recorded 1264:16 minutes in the box for UNCG. She was named to the ESPN Academic All-District team and last year, she was selected to the all-conference second-team.
Concord, NC, native Lauren Lopez has played in 18 games for UNCG. In her 17 starts, she has tallied seven points with two goals and three assists. Along with Corti, Lopez has powered the defensive line to hold the opposition to 173 shots with just 83 of those on goal.
