Katherine Ryan given academic all-district nod
GREENSBORO, NC. – UNC Greensboro senior goalkeeper Katherine Ryan was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District III women’s soccer team.
The biochemistry/pre-med major was recognized on the District III Third Team in voting by sports information directors.
On Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium, Ryan captured her eighth shutout of the season as the Spartans defeated the Elon Phoenix, 1-0, to advance to the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Championship Tournament. Other teams that have been held scoreless by the UNCG netminder include: William and Mary (2-0), Central Michigan (2-0), Ball State (1-0), Wofford (2-0), Davidson (3-0), and Furman (2-0). The eight-game list also includes an earlier 3-0 shutout against Elon.
Other members of the third team include: Jennifer Manis (University of Central Florida), Stacy Bishop (University of Florida), Annie Lowry (James Madison University), Melanie Schaffer (James Madison University), Annie Galloway (University of South Carolina), Nancy Haskell (Davidson College), Audrey Falconi (Virginia Military Institute), Courtney O’Brien (Appalachian State University), Suzanne Edwards (Liberty University), Christie McDonald (Duke University), Biana Gibbs (University of Florida), Laura Eldridge (High Point University), Allie Sadow (Wake Forest University), and Laurie Beth Puglisi (Virginia Tech).
On Friday, Nov. 9, the UNCG women’s soccer team will travel to Davidson for the SoCon Tournament semifinal match against the College of Charleston. Kickoff is set for 4:30.
