KANSAS CITY, KS – UNC Greensboro’s Katherine Ryan has been named to the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas College Women Scholar All-South Region Second Team. Ryan joins a total of 59 student-athletes honored by the NSCAA.
A senior from Pittsboro, NC, Ryan finished the 2007 season with a 12-5-1 record, including 10 shutouts. In her 1624:16 minutes in the box, she tallied 84 saves and allowed just 18 goals in 18 games.
In addition to her All-South Region Scholar nod, Ryan was named to the Southern Conference Pre-Season All-Conference team, the SoCon All-Conference first team, and was an ESPN Academic All-District III third-team selection. She was also a member of the SoCon Fall Academic All-Conference Team and the UNCG Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
Ryan’s on-field efforts have landed her in both the UNCG single-season and career record books. Her 84 saves are the seventh-most by a Spartan in one season. She is also ranked seventh in goals against average (1.00) and is eighth with 1624:16 minutes of action.
In her career, Ryan tops UNCG’s career goals against average list with a four-year average of 0.90. She is listed fourth in shutouts with 19 and fifth in both saves (190) and goalkeeper minutes (3880:43).
The netminder led the league with 10 shutouts (.56 sho/g) and was ranked second with a .824 save percentage. She was also listed fourth with a 1.00 goals against average and sixth in both saves (84) and saves per game (4.67).
