Three Spartans earn NCCSIA and Soccer Buzz postseason awards
GREENSBORO, NC – Seniors Shannon Donovan and Deven Beachum along with freshman Jen Bronson were honored with postseason awards announced by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association and Soccer Buzz Magazine on Tuesday. Donovan was also honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Donovan, defender from Melville, NY, was named to the NCCSIA All-State team, Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region second team and NSCAA All-Southeast Region third team. Donovan, the Southern Conference Player of the Year and first team All-Conference selection, led the Spartans in scoring with 23 points on seven goals and nine assists. She was named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine’s Elite Team of the Week (11/7) and also awarded SoCon Player of the Week on Oct. 17. This is Donovan’s fourth NCCSIA All-State honor and her third Soccer Buzz regional team selection.
Beachum, forward from Raleigh, NC, was placed on both the NCCSIA All-State team and the Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region third team. This is the first time Beachum has been honored by either of the organizations. Beachum was named first team All-Southern Conference after finishing third in the league in scoring and tied for second in goals. She finished second on the team in scoring with 19 points and had a team-leading eight goals and finished with three assists on the season.
Bronson, midfielder from Raleigh, NC, earned NCCSIA All-State team honors and was placed on the Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region All-Freshman team. Bronson was named Southern Conference Co-Freshman of the Year and was one of two Spartans to start all 22 games. She finished fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points after tallying five goals and fours assists.
The Spartans finished the season 13-8-2. UNCG captured the Southern Conference regular season title as well as the SoCon Tournament crown after finishing conference play 9-0-1and made its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance.
