SPARTANBURG, SC – Following an outstanding week of play, senior Amy Carnell has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 1, the league announced Tuesday.
Carnell, a forward from Lake Stevens, WA, collected a total of 13 points on four goals and five assists over a three-game stretch. She opened the week netting both goals for the Spartans in UNCG’s 2-0 win at Wofford. She followed that with a record-setting performance against The Citadel on Senior Night, scoring one goal and tying a school record with four assists in the Spartans’ 8-1 win over the Bulldogs.
The reigning SoCon Player of the Year, Carnell capped off her weekend with a goal and assist Sunday afternoon at Furman. She finished the regular season second on the Spartans in the assist category with nine and first in points with a cumulative total of 19.
Meanwhile, the Spartans (10-6-1, 6-3-1 SoCon) enter this week’s SoCon Tournament still ranked in the Soccer Buzz Southeast Region poll, checking in this week at No. 14. UNCG opens play in the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Chattanooga Thursday at 5 pm at Stone Stadium in Greenville, SC on the Furman campus.
