GREENSBORO, NC – Following a perfect 2-0 week on the soccer field, the UNC Greensboro women’s soccer team (3-2) has returned to the national spotlight as the Spartans are once again ranked in both major regional polls.
The Spartans check in this week ranked ninth in the Southeast region of the Soccer Buzz poll while UNCG also captured the ninth spot in the NSCAA Southeast rankings.
The Spartans picked up their first win of the week with a 6-0 blanking of in-state rival High Point. Cara Hammond led the UNCG offensive attack, scoring a pair of second half goals. Karla Davis and Nicollette DeLaine each netted their first goals of the year as the duo scored first half goals. Mary Kate Towne and Emilie Stewart also collected their first goals of the season when the twosome picked up scores in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
UNCG wrapped up its unblemished weekend with a 1-0 overtime victory over James Madison Saturday evening. Senior defender Tyson Davis scored her first career goal in the 98th minute on a shot from 25 yards out to catapult the Spartans to the 1-0 victory. In goal, Jennifer Stillman recorded her second consecutive shutout as she went just under 188 minutes without allowing a goal during the two contests.
The Spartans return to action Friday night to take on in-state and ACC foe Wake Forest at 7 pm at the UNCG Soccer Stadium, before hitting the road to battle Virginia Tech Sunday at 4 pm in Blacksburg.
