Women's Golf Travels To Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf program hits the road this week for the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at the Greenville Country Club Monday and Tuesday. The 54-stroke play event begins with a 36-hole day Monday, before wrapping up with 18-holes Tuesday. The par-72 course at the Greenville Country Club will play at 6,004 yards with a shotgun start both days. The 12th-annual event includes Augusta State, Boston College, Brown, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Georgia State, High Point, Longwood, Marshall, Maryland, UNCW, Old Dominion, Radford, Samford, Southern Mississippi, Western Carolina, William & Mary and Yale.
 
The Spartans will be led into the tournament by sophomore Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/ K.A. Voskenslaan) in the top spot of the lineup. Cnops missed last week's Starmount Forest Tournament as she was playing in the 2012 World Team Championships for Belgium where she finished tied for 12th overall in the world.
 
Senior Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C/Ashbrook) is second in the lineup after finishing in a tie for 40th place with a 229 (80-73-76) in last week's tournament. Sophomore Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) placed 49th in the event with a score of 232 (81-75-76). Rounding out the UNCG lineup is sophomore Andrea Rangel (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio la Presentacion) and freshman Lily Crane (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale).
 
Maryland is the reigning champion of the event as the Terrapins won last year's outing with a 879 (293-295-291) to win by three strokes over Georgia State (882=293-299-290).
