Women's Golf Hosts Starmount Forest Tournament Monday & Tuesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf program will hold its annual fall event as the Spartans host the Starmount Forest Tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Starmount Forest Country Club. The 54-hole stroke play event begins with a 36-hole day Monday, before wrapping up with 18-holes Tuesday.
The par-71 course at Starmount Forest Country Club will play at 6,265 yards for the 16-team event. Teams participating in this year's tournament include UNCG, Miami, Maryland, Campbell, East Tennessee State, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Western Carolina, Richmond, James Madison, Eastern Kentucky, Winthrop, Jacksonville, Morehead State, Elon and High Point as well as an individual from Sandhills Community College round out the 90-player field.
Maryland is the reigning champion of the event as the Terrapins won last year's outing with a 901 (303-308-290) to win by seven strokes over East Tennessee State (908=304-302-302). The Spartans finished last year's tournament in third place as a team with a 917 (304-308-305).
Charlotte Lorentzen of Georgia State won individual honors last year with a 5-over 218 (75-69-74) to win three strokes over Maryland's Juliet Vongphaumy (221=76-74-71).
Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) was the Spartans' top performer last year with a 224 (72-74-78) finishing tied for sixth. Cnops will miss this year's event as she is representing Belgium in the 2012 World Team Amateur Championships in Turkey.
Monday's first round will begin with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start while Tuesday will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available at
