Fanny Cnops Named Spartan Top Performer
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore women's golfer Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) has been named this week's Spartan Top Performer after finishing second at the Cardinal Cup. The Spartan Top Performer is chosen weekly from all sports in season and will run through the 2012-13 UNCG athletics campaign.
Cnops, the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year, posted the best 18-hole score of the 2012 Cardinal Cup with a final round 4-under 68 to move up four spots finishing in second place individually. She recorded a 54-hole total of 2-under par 214 (73-73-68) to finish as one of just two players under par for the event. Her 68 score in the final round included four birdies and 14 pars in the second-lowest score of her career.
Cnops, who led the SoCon last year with a 72.34 stroke average in 29 rounds, again leads the league this year with a 72.00 stroke average after two events. Her 68 score is tied for the lowest score so far this year by a SoCon women's golfer, joining Western Carolina's Taylor Allison.
Cnops and the Spartans return to action October 1-2 as they host the Starmount Forest Tournament at the Starmount Forest Country Club. The event will see 36 holes Monday, October 1 before finishing up with 18 holes Tuesday.
