GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's golf team sets off for its second tournament in less than a week as the Spartans travel to Louisville, Ky., for the 2012 Cardinal Cup. The 54-hole stroke play event will take place at the Cardinal Club with 36-holes Monday and 18-holes Tuesday.

"I am excited to see what we can build from last week in our first tournament at the Cougar Classic," head coach Sarah Sargent said. "We played a lot of good holes and now that we have one tournament under our belts, we should be feeling much more comfortable."

The Spartans will be joined in the event by Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, UNCW, Illinois State, James Madison, Akron, Cincinnati, Maryland, Georgia State, Missouri, Bradley, Charleston Southern, Rollins and host Louisville. Monday's 36-hole day will begin with a shotgun start at 8:40 a.m.

The Spartans opened the season last week at the Cougar Classic, placing 22nd as a team in a field that included 15 of the top 20 ranked teams in NCAA Division I. UNCG posted a 913 score over three rounds of play, improving its team score from the previous year by two strokes.

Sophomore Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) finished the tournament tied for 25th overall with a 2-over 218 (72-73-73) over the three rounds. Classmate Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) finished the event tied for 59th place with a 224 (74-72-78).
