Fanny Cnops Named Top 50 Female Players By Golf World

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's golf sophomore Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) has been named one of the top 50 NCAA Division I female golfers by the Golf World Magazine in the 2012-13 College Preview. Cnops is the only player from the Southern Conference ranked in the top 50 and one of just four players from the state of North Carolina on the list.

"I am very excited for Fanny to be ranked in the top 50 in the Golf World rankings," first-year head coach Sarah Sargent said. "She is one of the best female athletes I have seen and I look forward to what she will bring to the team this year."

Cnops enters her sophomore campaign as the reigning SoCon Player and Freshman of the Year. She became the first-ever Spartan to earn conference player of the year accolades and first SoCon women's golfer to earn both player and freshman honors in the same season.

Cnops turned in eight top-10 finishes last year, including wins at the Palmetto Intercollegiate (Oct. 23-24) and the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate (Feb. 26-28). She led the conference with a 72.34 stroke average while qualifying for the NCAA Regional as an individual. She matched the 18-hol school record shooting a final round of 67 at the Palmetto and posted a 54-hole school record of 7-under 209.

Cnops and the Spartans open the 2012-13 season at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., at the Yeamans Hall Golf Club Sept. 9-11.
