Women's Golf Announces 2012-13 Schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – First-year UNCG women's golf head coach Sarah Sargent announced a difficult 2012-13 schedule for the Spartans, highlighted by the hosting of the Starmount Forest Tournament in the fall and the Bryan National in the spring. The Spartans return six members from last season's second place finish in the Southern Conference Championship, including reigning SoCon Player of the Year sophomore Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/ K.A. Voskenslaan).

"This year's schedule is challenging and provides us an opportunity to be pushed to another level," Sargent said. "The team is looking forward to playing against some of the best teams in the nation and seeing where we stand. In our first event alone, 13 of the Top 25 teams will be competing, so a strong finish will move UNCG up in the rankings."

UNCG opens the 2012-13 season Sept. 9-11 at the prestigious Cougar Classic at Yeman's Hall in Charleston, S.C. The Spartans will also travel to the Cardinal Cup (Sept. 17-18) in Louisville, Ky., to round out the opening month.

UNCG hosts its annual Starmount Forest Tournament at the Starmount Forest Country Club Oct. 1-2. Teams participating in the event include Miami, Maryland, Campbell, East Tennessee State, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Western Carolina, Richmond, James Madison, Eastern Kentucky, Winthrop, Jacksonville, Morehead State, Elon and High Point.

The Spartans conclude the fall schedule with two more events in October. UNCG will travel to East Carolina for the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club (Oct. 8-9), before playing in the Landfall Classic in Wilmington, N.C., (Oct. 25-27).

UNCG opens the spring season at the Kiawah Invitational at Cougar Point Golf Course (March 3-5). The Spartans travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate hosted by Kansas State March 14-16.

The Spartans host their second tournament of the year March 29-30, holding the Bryan National at Bryan Park Country Club.

UNCG will play in the Lady Seahawk Classic at the River Landing Golf Course April 6-7 in Wilmington, N.C., as the final tune-up before the SoCon Championships. The 2013 conference championship will be held in Hilton Head, S.C., at the Marsh Creek Country Club April 14-16.
