UNCG maintains lead at SoCon Women's Golf Championship
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – UNCG maintained its four-stroke lead at the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship on Monday, with three players now in the top five of the individual standings. Ana Lucia Martinez's stellar second round moved her up the leaderboard to finish the day in fourth place.
UNCG is now four strokes ahead of Chattanooga after carding a score of 310 Monday. The Spartans, who had a four-stroke lead over Elon after Sunday's opening round, boast a two-day total of 616 with 18 holes left to play.
Martinez shot a 2-over 74 Monday to climb five spots in the individual standings with a two-day total of 152. Fanny Cnops finished 6-over par on the day with a round of 78, putting her at 153 (75-78), which ties her for fifth place with teammate Begona Sarabia and College of Charleston's Leigh Whittaker.
Sarabia, who had a share of the lead after Sunday's first round, followed her strong opening round with another solid day Monday, finishing with a 79 and a cumulative score of 153 (74-79).
Both Berglind Bjornsdottir and Courtney Taylor also moved up in the standings after the second round of play. Bjornsdottir shot a 79, which ties her for 14th place with a 158 (79-79) and Courtney Taylor recorded an 83 for a total of 167 (84-83), tying her for 37th.
In the individual standings, Chattanooga's Jordan Britt has jumped out to a three-stroke lead following a one-under par 71 in the second round. Britt is 4-over par for the tournament with a 148, three strokes ahead of teammate Maria Juliana Loza and Furman's Alexa Rancourt. Martinez is one shot back of that duo.
The final round from the Moss Creek Golf Club's North Course will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m.
