BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – After a windy first day of the Bryan National Collegiate, UNCG women's golf team sits tied for 11th. The Spartans, who are co-hosting the event with Wake Forest, combined for a total score of 306 after one round of play.
Freshman Fanny Cnops is leading the way for UNCG, as she's tied for 13th place overall with a 73. She shot a 35 on the front nine Friday, followed by a 38 on the back. Cnops recorded an eagle on No. 6, sinking her ball in just two strokes on the par-4 hole.
Ana Lucia Martinez carded a 3-over par 75 on day one. She is tied for 28th, just two strokes back of Cnops.
Berglind Bjornsdottir and Courtney Taylor each finished with rounds of 79, tying them for 63rd. Begona Sarabia is tied for 72nd after shooting 80, while Kelly Berry, playing as an individual, is 93rd with a 98.
Individually, Katie Burnett of South Carolina is out front at 2-under par. She leads Duke's Lindy Duncan, the No. 1 player in the country, by one stroke.
Northwestern finished atop the team standings Friday, leading South Carolina by two strokes.
The second round from the Players Course at Bryan Park will get under way Saturday at 8:20 a.m.
