UNCG third after two rounds at SoCon tournament

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Courtney Taylor shot a 4-over-par 76 on Monday to lead the UNCG women's golf team's efforts in the second round of the Southern Conference Championship. The Spartans stand third in the 10-team field with 18 holes to play at the Moss Creek Golf Club.

Taylor is tied for 11th among individuals and is one shot ahead of two teammates, Ana Lucia Martinez and Erica Creed, both of whom shot 77 in Sunday's first round and 80 on Monday.

UNCG entered the tournament ranked 123rd nationally by golfstat.com. In this tournament, the Spartans currently lead three SoCon teams with higher national ratings: No. 62 Furman; No. 72 Western Carolina; and No. 122 Elon.

The Spartan program has been in top half of the SoCon tournament in 12 of its 13 appearances, six of which have produced runner-up finishes. UNCG and Furman are the only programs to place in the top half in each of the past five years.

Chattanooga (608 through 36 holes) owns a comfortable lead over the College of Charleston (625) and UNCG (630). Paced by Emma de Groot's 1-over-par 145, three Lady Mocs are among the top 10 individuals.
