Martinez' round of 72 leads Spartans on second day of Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – UNCG junior Ana Martinez shot an even-par 72 on Saturday to lead the Spartans in the second round of play at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championship.
The Spartans are in 15th place after a round of 309 on Saturday. Tennessee, the tournament host, built on its commanding lead in the team standings, expanding its lead to 20 shots over second-place TCU.
Martinez, who closed Friday's round with 11 consecutive pars to finish at three-over 75, carded five birdies and five bogies in her round on Saturday, shooting 36 on both sides.
Tennessee's Erica Popson still holds the individual lead after shooting a 69 on Saturday. She has a two-shot lead over teammate Sara Monberg and Mississippi's Natalie Gleadall.
Sunday's final round gets underway at 9 a.m. with the Spartans beginning play off No. 10 in the 9:09 a.m. group.
