UNCG set to begin play Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The UNCG women's golf team will begin play Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships, which is being played at Holston Hills Country Club.
The tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee, is teaming up with the Knoxville affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each participating team will receive pink ribbons to display on its bags. On Saturday, every team will wear pink for a "Pink Out" promotion. Additionally, fans attending the tournament will be able to donate money to the foundation.
UNCG will join Arkansas, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, ETSU, Furman, Georgia State, James Madison, Kent State, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee, TCU and UTSA in the field. As usual, this year's Mercedes-Benz boasts an extremely deep field with six teams in the top 50 according to Golfstat. Arkansas is No. 14, Kent State is 18th, Ole Miss is 29th, Tennessee No. 31, TCU is No. 35, and Chattanooga is No. 43.
UNCG is coming off a 10th place finish at the Windy City Collegiate on Tuesday, hosted by Northwestern. That tournament featured seven teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50. Sophomore Courtney Taylor finished with a final round 73 on Tuesday to move up 14 spots to 26th place on the final day.
The tournament will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. UNCG will tee off from No. 10 on Friday beginning with the 9 a.m. group. Holston Hills is 6,302 yards and plays at par-72.
