Taylor's 77 leads UNCG on second day at Cougar Classic
HANAHAN, S.C. – UNCG sophomore Courtney Taylor recorded the Spartans' low round of the day on Monday with a 77 at the Cougar Classic, hosted by College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall.
Taylor overcame a sluggish start to card her 77. She began the day with a bogey and a double-bogey, but bounced back with a birdie at No. 3. She finished the front side of the course in 37 and closed out the back side with a birdie at No. 18.
The Spartans shot 318 on the day and dropped to 18th place with a score of 618 after 36 holes. North Carolina leads the team standings with a score of 570, nine shots better than South Carolina and 14 ahead of Mississippi and Oklahoma.
North Carolina's Courtney Gunter and Furman's Laura Wearn are tied atop the individual leaderboard. Gunter began the day as the leader, but Wearn's second-round 69 pulled her into a tie. North Carolina's Jackie Chang is one shot back.
The final round of the 21-team tournament gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Spartans will begin in groups on hole Nos. 13, 14, 15 and 16.
