UNCG finished tied for ninth at Pinehurst Challenge
PINEHURST, N.C. - UNC Greensboro's Erica Creed shot a team-best 76 on Tuesday in the final round at the Pinehurst Challenge women's golf tournament as the Spartans finished tied for ninth in the 18-team field at Pinehurst No. 6.
Creed's 76 gave her a 54-hole total of 227 and put her in a tie for 23rd in the individual standings. The Spartans shot a final round score of 314 to close out the event with a team total of 919, tying for ninth place alongside SoCon foe and tournament host College of Charleston.
Florida State won the team title, coasting to the victory. After beginning the day with a 17-shot lead, the Seminoles nearly doubled the cushion by shooting a final round 286 to finish 33 shots ahead of Maryland, thanks in large part to having three of the best five individual scores. Campbell was third, one shot back of Maryland.
Lacey Agnew won the individual honors, shooting a final round 70 to come back for the win with a 54-hole total of 212. Second-round leader Christine Shimel of Maryland was second, two shots back.
The Spartans return to action April 2 when they co-host the Bryan National at the Champions Course at Bryan Park. UNCG and Wake Forest host the event that will feature the nation's top teams in women's collegiate golf.
