Creed cards 77 to lead UNCG in second round at Bryan National

BROWN SUMMIT, N.C. – UNC Greensboro’s Erica Creed shot a team-best 77 on Saturday, the second day of the 2009 Bryan National Collegiate women’s golf tournament on Bryan Park’s Champions Course.

Creed is tied for 39th place in the 96-player field, sitting 11-over par for the tournament. She is just five shots out of the Top 10, however, with a 36-hole total of 155. Starting on No. 10 on Saturday, Creed played the back 9 in 37 with two bogeys, six pars and a birdie on No. 15. But she was inconsistent down the stretch with three bogeys, a double bogey and a pair of birdies in her last six holes.

Wake Forest’s Nannette Hill bounced back to take the lead after 36 holes. She shot a 68 on Saturday to hold a two-shot lead over first round leader Tessa Teachman of LSU and North Carolina’s Catherine O’Donnell. Teachman had shot a 68 in Friday’s opening round, but struggled with a 77 on Saturday to sit two shots off of the pace.

LSU held onto the team, although the commanding lead it held to start the day shrunk a little. The Tigers are at 592 after 36 holes, nine shots better than North Carolina and 10 shots better than Wake Forest. UNCG is in 18th place at 638 after carding a 318 on Saturday, two shots better than Friday’s score.

Fifteen of the 18 teams in the tournament are ranked in GolfStat’s Top 50 this week. Sunday’s final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 am.
