UNCG signs Lauren Smith to women's golf NLI

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro women’s golf coach Emily Marron announced Wednesday the commitment of Lauren Smith during the National Letter of Intent program’s recent signing period.

Smith has been the team Most Valuable Player each of the last four years at Salisbury High School in Salisbury, NC. The four-time Player of the Year in the North Piedmont Conference, she led Salisbury to state titles in 2005 and 2006. She has finished in the Top 6 all four years at the North Carolina High School State Championship, including a runner-up finish in her sophomore year.

“I'm thrilled to have Lauren join our program,” said Marron. “I have always been impressed with Lauren as an athlete, but more importantly as a person. She has a great attitude and will fit in perfectly on our team.  Lauren's golf game will transition to the college level easily. She has length off of the tee, hitting it farther than almost every girl I've ever watched. I've really enjoyed getting to know both Lauren and her family over the past year. We are glad to have Lauren as part of our UNCG family, and I am looking forward to watching her grow and progress over the next four years.”

Smith also finished second at the 2007 North Carolina Junior Championship.

UNCG graduates two seniors at the end of this season in Gabby DiMora and Ashley Mylton.

The Spartans resume play on February 22 when they travel to Gainesville, FL for the Lady Gator Invite.
