WILMINGTON, N.C. – Battling heavy rain, UNC Greensboro shot a team score of 320 to sit in 11th place after the opening round on women’s play at the Landfall Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.
Teams struggled throughout the day in the conditions. In fact, the Spartans sit one shot behind North Carolina State, a Top 25 ranked team, after the first round.
Senior Ashley Mylton was UNCG’s top golfer with a 76. She is tied for 23rd place, although she struggled late in her round. Mylton was three shots off the lead at one-under after 12 holes. However, she played the final six holes at five-over to sit eight shots off the pace after the opening round, but just two shots out of the Top 10.
Purdue’s Christel Boeljon is atop the individual leaderboard after firing a 68 in the difficult conditions. She leads Wake Forest’s Laura Crawford by one shot. Purdue is also atop the team standings at 287, three shots ahead of Virginia and nine shots ahead of Wake Forest.
The second round of Saturday, which looks to be more of the same tough conditions at least to begin the day, gets underway for UNCG beginning at 9:12 am.
