UNCG third after opening round at Lady Paladin, two Spartans in Top 10

GREENVILLE, S.C. – UNC Greensboro battled the weather well enough to earn a third-place standing after the first round at the Lady Paladin Invite at Furman University Golf Course.

During a first round plagued by wind and rain, East Tennessee State took the early lead with a 299. TCU is second at 300, followed by UNCG at 307. Laura Jansone carded a one-under 71 and Maria Ringdahl notched an even-par 72 to give the Buccaneers a one-stroke advantage over TCU on the par-72, 6,288-yard course.

UNCG has two players in the Top 10 after 18 holes. Senior Ashley Mylton carded a 74 in the difficult conditions while freshman Erica Creed shot a 75.

Only two players recorded sub-par rounds on Friday. Carmen Perez-Narbon of Coastal Carolina grabbed the individual lead shooting 33 on the front nine on her way to a two-under-par 70. She leads Jansone by one stroke with three players tied for third at even-par.

Saturday’s second round gets underway with tee times beginning at 8:30 am.
