Mylton, Creed in the hunt, Spartans fourth at Myrtle Beach
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Ashley Mylton fired a 71 and Erica Creed followed up with a 72 to lead UNC Greensboro to a fourth place standing after Monday’s first round at the 2007 Myrtle Beach Classic at Grande Dunes Resort Golf Club.
Mylton, a senior from Charlotte, NC, went out in 35 and played the back 9 in 36 to finish two behind the leader Iliska Verwey. Verwey of Georgia State shot a 69 to lead by two shots. UNCG freshman Erica Creed shot a 72, after holding the lead with a 34 on the front side, to sit three shots back.
Georgia State is in the lead in the team standings at 287, followed by East Carolina at 291, College of Charleston at 295 and UNCG at 297.
The second round of the 36-hole event gets underway Tuesday morning.
