Spartans in middle of the pack after first round at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – Ashley Mylton shot a 74 and Gabby DiMora and Annelie Weimenhog shot rounds of 75 as UNC Greensboro carded a team score of 303 on the opening day of the Cougar Classic Women’s Golf Tournament.

The Spartans sit in a middle of the standings log-jam. Currently in 17th place among 20 teams, UNCG is in a group of 10 teams separated by nine shots. Louisiana State and Alabama are tied for first, both carding team totals of 286.

Notre Dame’s Lisa Maunu shot an opening round 66 to take the individual lead. After tying the tournament record for the lowest round, she has a two shot lead over Florida State’s Whitney Wright and College of Charleston’s Fina Puyo at the Par 72 Yeamans Hall GC.

Mylton, a senior from Charlotte, NC is tied for 35th. She had four bogeys and two birdies in her round, completing both sides of the course in 37. DiMora, who is tied for 48th, settled down after a rough start, she bogeyed four of the first five holes, but birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 seemed to settle her down. She played the rest of the round with nine pars and one bogey.

Also tied for 48th, Weimenhog had a little more of a roller coaster of a day. She birdied No. 2 to get off to a good start, but the double bogeyed No. 4. She then birdied the par-5 seventh and bogeyed the par-4 eighth. After a bogey on No. 11, she bogeyed Nos. 15 and 16 before closing the round with a birdie on No. 18.
