HOLLYWOOD, S.C. – UNC Greensboro’s final round score of 305, with three players finishing in the Top 10, secured second place at the 2008 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Links at Stono Ferry.
The second place finish was UNCG’s best since 2002 when the Spartans had the fifth of five straight runner-up finishes in the SoCon Championship.
Erica Creed, Annelie Weimenhog and Ashley Mylton all recorded Top 10 finishes for UNCG to lead the win. Creed, a freshman from Kernersville, NC, carded a final round 73 to finish at 225 for the tournament and tied for fifth place. She finished the day strong. After going out in 39, Creed came through the back side in 34 with seven pars and two birdies.
Weiemenhog, a sophomore from Kattarp, Sweden, finished tied for eighth place, while senior Ashley Mylton finished in a tie for 10th place.
Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer shot a final round 70 to record a four-shot win over Elon’s Danielle Mills. Kenoyer finished the 54-hole event at 218. That led Furman to the team title. The Lady Paladins had a team score of 901, eight shots better than UNCG. The Spartans were a solid second place, 17 shots ahead of third-place Elon.
