HOLLYWOOD, S.C. – Three Spartans are in the running for the individual title and UNC Greensboro is in second place in the team standings after the opening round of the 2008 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the Links at Stono Ferry.
Furman sits atop the team standings at 294, with UNCG just three shots back. Elon is third at 301.
UNCG’s Ashley Mylton carded a 73 on Sunday to sit in a tie for third, three shots off the pace. Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a 70 on Sunday. Mylton overcame a slow start to finish one-over. She bogeyed two of her first three holes, but birdies on Nos. 14, 15 and 17 got her back into the thick of things late in the day.
Annelie Weimenhog and Erica Creed are both tied for sixth after shooting 74 on Sunday. Weimenhog had birdied Nos. 11, 13 and 14 to sit at even par, but she suffered a setback with a double-bogey on No. 18. Creed played the front side in 35, but she settled for a 74 with three bogeys on the back side.
Monday’s second round gets underway with tee times at 8 am. UNCG’s groups begin with the 9:40 am pairing.
