Ashley Mylton led the Spartans with a 76 in Friday’s opening round. She sits seven shots off the pace. College of Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr was the story of the opening round, carding a 69 to take the lead after 18 holes. Kirchmayr started out on the seventh hole was even after she finished the 18th hole with just two birdies and two bogeys. Kirchmayr leads the trio of Duke’s Amanda Blumerherst, Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis and North Carolina State’s Lauren Doughtie by one shot. Only five golfers shot under par on Friday. Blumerherst, one of the top players in the nation, bounced back from a bumpy morning to catch fire in her last nine holes.
