NORWOOD, NC – UNC Greensboro women’s golf incoming freshman Erica Creed recorded rounds of 71 and 76 to win the 2007 Carolinas Westfield Junior PGA Championship at Piney Point Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Creed carded her 71 on Tuesday to take a one shot lead over Sarah Almond. Creed then shot a 76 on Wednesday to hold on for a three-shot victory over Almond, who shot a 78 in the final round. Almond won the 13-15 year old division. Creed’s two-round total of 147 was 24 shots better than the next-best 16-18 year old division player.
A native of Kernersville, NC, Creed overcame a triple-bogey seven on the fourth hole, shooting just one-over for the remainder of the day to qualify for the national Junior PGA Championship next month. The 32nd national Westfield Junior PGA Championship will be held July 11-14 at Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center, OH.
Creed recently graduated from Northwest Guilford HS, where she was earned all-conference honors all four years and was the 2006 Metro 4A Conference Player of the Year and Tournament Champion. Last fall, she finished fifth at the NCHSAA 4A championship. Last week, Creed placed 13th in the North Carolina Women’s Amateur. This month, she sits in the Top 10 in the North Carolina Junior Girls Rankings.
