Mylton advances to match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship

LEXINGTON, KY – UNC Greensboro’s Ashley Mylton advanced to match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at Kearney Hill Golf Links on Tuesday.

Mylton, who shot a 77 in the opening round of qualifying on Monday, carded a 74 in the second round for a total of 151 and was one of 64 players who advanced to match play at the USGA championship.

The 64 player match-play cut off came at 9-over 153, with eight players having to come back Wednesday morning for a sudden-death playoff for the final five spots into the draw. First round matches are scheduled for Wednesday with the 36-hole final scheduled for Saturday.

The Charlotte, NC native will be paired with Kayla Mortellaro of Phoenix, AZ, who carded a 144 in stoke play. The duo will tee off at 12:24 pm on Wednesday.

The rising senior qualified for the championships by shooting a 72 at the sectional qualifier held at the University of North Carolina’s Finley Golf Course last month. Mylton birdied the fifth sudden death playoff hole to become one of six qualifiers at the sectional.

Mylton, who is currently tied for 44th place, was UNCG’s top golfer for most of the 2006-07 season. She played in all 10 tournaments and recorded five Top 20 finishes, including a season-best tie for 10th place at the Lady Pirate Invitational in October. She helped the Spartans to a fourth place finish at the Southern Conference championships and finished in 14th place individually.
