Weather woes: First day of SoCon women's golf tourney wiped out

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Winds gusting to excess of 50 miles per hour and heavy rains wiped out the first day of the 2007 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship on Sunday.

The first round at Patriots Point Golf Links was set for a 7:30 a.m. tee-off time on Sunday. But due to heavy winds and inclement weather, the round was moved to a 2 pm start. Championship officials cancelled the round, however, just before 1 pm as winds in excess of 50 miles per hour and other elements proved too hazardous for play.

The championship will now be played as a 36-holes tournament with the first round being played Monday beginning at 7:30 am.
