PINEHURST, N.C. – UNC Greensboro is in a tie for third after the first round of women’s golf action at the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by the College of Charleston at Pinehurst No. 8.
The Spartans trail frontrunner Maryland by seven shots and Mississippi State by five, while sitting in a tie with SoCon rival College of Charleston and Iowa.
Jenna Schmidt and Ashley Parrott lead the way for UNCG, both sitting in a tie for seventh after shooting an opening round 76. They are both four shots off the lead, trailing UNC Wilmington’s Michelle Jarman. Parrott’s 76 was her second-best round this season, topped only by a 73 back in early October.
The second round gets underway on Monday morning.
