GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's women's basketball team will play a 28-game regular-season schedule that includes trips to national power North Carolina and a tournament in California as well as the 20-game Southern Conference slate, coach Wendy Palmer announced Friday.
"I believe we have put together a schedule that will challenge our student-athletes to play with consistency and maximum effort," Palmer said. "Our nonconference match-ups will prepare us for a difficult Southern Conference slate, and I am excited to watch our players grow and compete this season.
"I know how much basketball means to this community, and I am thrilled to contribute to the UNCG tradition. We need support, and I am confident our fans will get behind this program."
UNCG will kick off the season on Nov. 11 with a home contest against perennial Big South power Liberty in what will be the first contest on the newly named Lynne Agee court at Fleming Gym.
The Spartans will make the short trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the Tar Heels on Nov. 16, followed by road dates at Radford (Nov. 21) and North Carolina Central (Nov. 26).
UNCG returns home to open SoCon play on Dec. 1, when Chattanooga comes to town. The Spartans will play Samford two days later and step back out of conference play to host UAB on Dec. 6 to cap the homestand.
Road games at Richmond (Dec. 10), Wofford (Dec. 17) and Furman (Dec. 19) take UNCG into the holiday break before the Spartans are back on the road for a pair of games at the Surf 'N Slam Classic in San Diego. UNCG will face tournament host San Diego State on Dec. 28 and Pennsylvania the next day.
The Spartans return to SoCon play for the remainder of the season when they play at Western Carolina on Jan. 7 before hosting Appalachian State on Jan. 9. The App State game opens a season-high four-game homestand that will also see the Spartans host College of Charleston (Jan. 13), Georgia Southern (Jan. 15) and Furman (Jan. 21).
UNCG is back on the road at Elon on Jan. 23 and makes the Chattanooga/Samford return swing on Jan. 28 and 30. Back-to-back home games against Western Carolina (Feb. 4) and Elon (Feb. 6) precede in-state road games at Davidson (Feb. 8) and Appalachian State (Feb. 11).
The Spartans will face the Wildcats for the second time in three games when Davidson comes to Fleming Gym on Feb. 14. UNCG will make its final road trip of the regular season when it plays College of Charleston on Feb. 18 and Georgia Southern on Feb. 20.
UNCG will wrap up the regular season against Wofford on Feb. 27 in Greensboro.
The Southern Conference Championship returns to Asheville, N.C., this season and will take place from March 2-5. First and second-round women's contests will be played at UNC Asheville's new Kimmel Arena, while the semifinal and championship games will be at the Asheville Civic Center. The city of Asheville hosted the SoCon men's tournament from 1984-95 and the women's tournament in 1995.
Season tickets for UNCG's home games are $38, while there are mini packs of four games available for $15. A complimentary women's basketball season ticket is also included when purchasing a men's basketball season ticket.
For individual games, admission is $4 for adults (18 and up) and $3 for seniors (55 and over) and youth (4-17). Groups of 10 or more are $2 each. UNCG students get in free.
