Storylines

• With the regular season in the books, UNCG heads to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2011 Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship. The sixth-seeded Spartans will take on 11th-seeded Wofford in the opening round on Thursday.

• UNCG's sixth seed is its highest since the 2006-07 season, when the Spartans finished tied for third in the league and earned the fourth seed. UNCG is the sixth seed for the first time in school history.

• The Spartans will be participating in their 14th SoCon Championship since joining the league in 1997-98. UNCG won the tournament that season, but that remains the lone SoCon tournament title in school history. The Spartans are 15-12 overall in the tourney, including a 1-2 mark when the tournament is in Chattanooga.

• UNCG has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the SoCon tournament in 11 of its 13th appearances, either via first-round win or a bye. The last time UNCG didn't make it out of the first round was in 2004.

• The last time the tournament was in Chattanooga was also the last time UNCG faced Wofford in the league tournament. That came in 2009, when the seventh-seeded Spartans downed the 10th-seeded Terriers 83-64 in the first round.

• UNCG is 2-0 all-time against Wofford in the SoCon tournament. In addition to the 2009 win, the Spartans topped Wofford in the quarterfinals in 1999.

• The Spartans went 1-1 at the SoCon tournament last season, downing eighth-seeded Western Carolina in the 8-9 game before falling to top-seeded Chattanooga, the eventual champion, in the quarterfinals.

• UNCG is 28-4 against Wofford all-time and swept a pair of regular-season meetings this season. The Spartans opened the series with 13 straight wins over the Terriers before Wofford got its first win the series in the 2002-03 season. UNCG ran off nine more wins over Wofford before the Terriers would get their second win, during the 2007-08 season. Wofford earned its first-ever sweep of the Spartans by taking both games last season.

• Senior Monique Floyd and freshman Janae' Stevenson earned SoCon postseason honors this week. Floyd was named to the 10-member All-SoCon team by the league coaches and to the All-SoCon Second Team by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association, while Stevenson was named SoCon All-Freshman by both the coaches and the SCSMA.

• This season, Floyd became the only player in UNCG history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 175 steals and 250 assists at the Division I level. She currently has 1,095 points, 509 rebounds, 187 steals and 281 assists. Floyd scored her 1,000th career point in UNCG's loss at Furman on Jan. 31.

• Stevenson has blocked a team-best 35 shots this season, tied for the fourth-best single-season mark in school history and a record for a UNCG freshman. Stevenson also leads the Spartans in rebounding with 6.7 per game and is on pace to become the first freshman to lead UNCG in rebounding since Melinda Goodson in 1996-97.

• Floyd leads UNCG in scoring with 13.7 points per game, while Amanda Leigh is second at 11.3 points per game. Dayshaun Richbow leads the team with 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

• UNCG closed the regular season with a brutal run, playing the top three teams in the league in the last three games. UNCG dropped home games to Chattanooga and Samford and fell on the road at Appalachian State.

• After tying for seventh in the league last season, Wofford has regressed to 11th place this year, posting a 7-21 overall record and a 3-17 league mark. The Terriers have lost six straight and 13 of 14 heading into the tournament.

• Wofford is 6-13 all-time at the SoCon tournament, with its last win coming in 2008. The Terriers have never advanced past the quarterfinal round.

• April Moorhouse leads Wofford in scoring with 11.5 points per game, while Mahagony Williams is right behind her at 11.4 and leads the team and is third in the SoCon with 8.5 rebounds per contest. Rachel Brittenham dishes off a league-best 5.1 assists per game and is third in the conference with 2.5 steals per contest. Williams is third in the SoCon with 2.0 blocked shots per game, while the Terriers as a team lead the league with 5.5 per contest. Wofford is last in the league in scoring defense (71.1) and scoring margin (-10.5).
