Storylines
• UNCG will try for its third straight road win and will attempt to hand Furman its first home loss of the season when it takes on the Paladins in Greenville, S.C., on Monday evening.
• The Spartans are chasing a pair of milestones Monday. Senior Monique Floyd is just two points shy of 1,000 in her career and is poised to become just the 22nd player in school history to reach the mark. Additionally, coach Lynne Agee enters the contest with 599 career wins, meaning she needs just one more to become only the 14th active coach to record 600 career wins.
• UNCG brings a 10-10 overall record and a 7-5 Southern Conference mark into Monday's contest. The 10 wins match UNCG's win total from all of last season. With at least nine games left on the schedule (and perhaps more, depending on how UNCG fares at the SoCon Championship), the Spartans are seeking their first winning season since going 20-10 in 2006-07.
• At 7-5 in the SoCon, UNCG is two games over .500 through 12 league games for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign, when the Spartans were 8-4 after 12 conference contests.
• Furman is 8-12 overall and 4-7 in league play, good for a tie for eighth in the SoCon standings. UNCG is alone in fourth place, a half game ahead of 11-time defending regular-season champion Chattanooga.
• Last time out, Floyd scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting as the Spartans downed Wofford on Saturday, 60-51. Janae' Stevenson added 11 points for UNCG, which forced 31 Terrier turnovers and used a 10-1 run midway through the second half to pull away. The Spartans' 17 steals in the contest were their most since having 17 against North Carolina Central on Dec. 16, 2009.
• UNCG leads the series with Furman 20-11. The Spartans won this season's first meeting, making the squads 3-3 against each other following a six-game UNCG winning streak in the series. Should Furman win Monday's contest, it will mark the fourth straight season the teams have split. The Spartans are 8-6 against the Paladins all-time in Greenville.
• The last time these teams met was on Dec. 20, 2010, when UNCG took a 71-61 win in Greensboro, N.C. Floyd scored what was then a career-high 23 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while Kendra Smith added a season-high 14 points and Amanda Leigh had 12. Furman's Kelly O'Connor had 16 points in the first 14 minutes to lead the Paladins, but she didn't score the rest of the way. Kaitlin Murphy and Raegan Thompson scored 11 each while Kendra Berry shared game-high honors with eight boards.
• This weekend's trip is the Spartans' fourth one to South Carolina this season. UNCG opened the campaign at Clemson on Nov. 12, played at Charleston Southern on Nov. 22 and took on College of Charleston on the road on Jan. 15.
• Floyd leads UNCG in scoring at 14.3 points per game and is second on the team by percentage points with 6.1 rebounds per contest. Stevenson reclaimed the team rebounding lead from Floyd with 11 against Davidson on Tuesday and is now averaging 6.1 per contest. Leigh is UNCG's second-leading scorer at 11.9 points per game. Floyd, who is 14th nationally with a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, dishes off a team-best 3.4 assists per game. She is also third in the SoCon with 2.6 offensive rebounds per game. Dayshaun Richbow leads UNCG with 2.1 steals per game.
• Furman has lost two straight after a two-game winning streak, but lost seven straight on the road before that, starting with the loss at UNCG. Included in that lengthy skid were losses at Wake Forest, Arkansas, Chattanooga, Samford and Elon. Furman is one of just two SoCon teams to beat league-leading Appalachian State this season.
• The Apps avenged that loss to the Paladins on Saturday, taking an 85-67 win in Boone, N.C. O'Connor paced Furman with 14 points, while Berry had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jánice Roberts added 10 points in the losing effort.
• O'Connor paces three Paladins in double figures with 12.7 points per game. Murphy scores 12.2 per contest, while Berry adds 10.2 to go along with a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game. O'Connor leads the SoCon and is 17th nationally with 3.0 3-pointers per game.
• After playing nine of its last 11 on the road, Furman returns home for a six-game homestand when it hosts UNCG on Monday. The Paladins are 7-0 at home this season.
