Storylines
• After a week layoff, UNCG kicks off a hectic 10-day stretch with a game at Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C., on Monday at 7 p.m.
• The CSU game begins a busy four-game road swing over 10 days for the Spartans. After taking on the Buccaneers on Monday, UNCG will fly down to Miami, Fla., on Wednesday for a pair of games in the University of Miami's Mayfair Hotel and Spa Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 26-27. The Spartans will then return to Greensboro on Nov. 28 and get a couple of nights at home before heading up to Baltimore, Md., for a game against Morgan State on Dec. 1.
• The Spartans are 14-1 all-time against Charleston Southern, but that one win came last season in the form of a 56-54 CSU victory in Greensboro.
• UNCG needs a win Monday to avoid its third 0-3 start in the last four seasons. The Spartans opened 0-6 in 2007-08 and 0-3 the following year before winning their season-opener in 2009-10.
• Last time out, UNCG dropped a tough game to UNC Wilmington on Nov. 15, 62-58. The Spartans put Monique Floyd (12), Brey Dorsett (10), Dayshaun Richbow (10) and Sidnei Harmon (10) in double figures and staged a big second-half rally to make it a one-possession game, but could not overcome a 14-point halftime deficit.
• UNCG coach Lynne Agee is in her 30th season at the helm for UNCG this season. With a 589-320 career record in her 33rd year on the sidelines overall, Agee is tied for 13th among active coaches in terms of wins and is tied for 21st among Div. I coaches all-time.
• The Spartans return three starters from last year's 10-20 squad in seniors Floyd, Amanda Leigh and Kendra Smith. The trio, who serve as UNCG's captains this season, have plenty of experience under their belts, as Floyd is a three-year starter and Leigh is a two-year starter. Smith stepped into the starting lineup as a regular for the first time last season. The three combined for more than half of UNCG's 150 starts last year, starting 78 games among them. Together, they averaged 25.7 points per game, led by Leigh's 10.6.
• Floyd leads UNCG this season with 12.0 points per game after scoring 12 in each of UNCG's first two contests. Leigh is right behind her at 11.0 points per contest, while Harmon is at 10.0 but has played in just one game thus far. Freshman Janae' Stevenson, who missed the UNCW game because of a death in the family, pulled down six rebounds in her collegiate debut at Clemson. Floyd is second at 5.5 rebounds per game.
• While UNCG and Charleston Southern have played only five combined games so far this season, they already have one common opponent. The Spartans fell to Clemson on Nov. 12, 71-55, while the Bucs dropped an 85-52 contest to the Tigers just two days later.
• Charleston Southern is off to a 2-1 start on the season, but has played just one NCAA Division I opponent thus far. The Bucs opened their season with a 101-54 shellacking of Div. II Erskine on Nov. 13 before taking on Clemson one day later. On Tuesday, CSU topped Voorhees College, an NAIA school located in Denmark, S.C., by a 96-63 score.
• The Bucs went 17-14 last season and 9-7 to tie for third in the Big South. After turning in one of the best seasons in school history, CSU was rewarded with its first-ever postseason appearance, taking part in the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitational, where it fell to eventual champion (and UNCG's SoCon opponent) Appalachian State in the first round.
• Senior Katie Tull, who matched her career high with 27 points and hit a school-record nine 3-pointers against Voorhees, leads CSU with 15.3 points per game. Kelsey Wasmer nearly averages a double-double with 14.3 points and a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game, while Lakeitha Alston, who had a career-high 27 points in the opener against Erskine, is also in double figures at 14.0 points per game.
